CTE Classroom Assessment and Evaluation - online

This course is designed to help teacher candidates understand what research has taught us about best practices in assessment and grading. The course will challenge basic assumptions about past practices and will ask you to develop your own assessment and grading philosophies in consideration of what the research says. You will understand what both formative and summative assessment are and begin to describe how you will use them in your teaching practice. You will also explore how your course frameworks, State summative assessments, and your instruction intertwine. Finally, we will have an honest dialogue about grading and its subjective nature. We will look at current research practices around grading and develop your own philosophy and plan describing how you plan to use grading in your classroom. The end result will be some contributing documentation for your portfolio that should be useful in your practice.   Prerequisite: Teaching Strategies or equivalent or WA State Teaching license.

Please read:  No required textbook. Information to log onto Canvas will be sent out a week prior to the start of the class. The instructor will make the classroom live the Sunday before the class begins. Students are expected to log on first day of class to see the syllabus, but do not have to log on at a specific time. Students will have weekly assignments that require them to log on to the Canvas site a minimum of 2-3 times a week.
