Van Bobbitt, South Seattle College horticulture instructor, has arranged an exclusive garden tour and refreshments for us at the Powellswood Garden in Federal Way, WA. It is three acres nestled against thirty-five acres of native successional forest. Our guided tour that will focus on the history of the garden, special plants, and sustainable gardening practices as we explore the major features of this amazing garden: A series of exquisite hedges which help define several distinct garden rooms graced with more than a thousand varieties of trees, shrubs and perennials; woodland and shade gardens; and perennial borders which thrive as a result of an extensive soil conservation project. The garden also features walking paths, a meandering stream and pond, and a conservatory-style Garden Room. After the Tour, the group will enjoy an optional no-host lunch together and side trip to the West Hylebos Wetlands, a moist, lush forest refuge. Meet at 10:15 a.m. at the garden entrance. Class Fee includes all Powellswood tour fees. (You must provide your own transportation to Powellswood.)
